Oakberry’s Brazilian Açaí Concept Opens in Waikiki This Saturday at Park Shore

Brazilian açaí chain Oakberry will open its first Hawaiian location Saturday morning at Park Shore Waikiki, adding another health-focused dining option to the tourist corridor’s already crowded restaurant scene.

The fast-casual concept, which specializes in açaí bowls and smoothies, will begin serving customers at 10 a.m. from its spot at 2586 Kalakaua Avenue. The location puts Oakberry directly in the heart of Waikiki’s beachfront dining strip, competing with established smoothie shops and health food outlets for both tourist dollars and local patronage.

Founded in Brazil in 2016, Oakberry has expanded to over 600 locations across 40 countries, marketing itself as a “superfood” concept centered around organic açaí. The purple berry, native to the Amazon rainforest, has become a staple of health-conscious dining in Hawaii, where açaí bowls have been popular long before they became a mainland trend.

“We’re excited to bring authentic Brazilian açaí culture to Hawaii, where people already understand and appreciate this superfood,” said Marcus Vinicius, Oakberry’s co-founder, in a statement. “Waikiki felt like the perfect place to start because of the health-conscious community here and the international visitors who are familiar with our brand.”

The Park Shore location will offer Oakberry’s signature menu of customizable açaí bowls, smoothies, and what the company calls “açaí na tigela” — traditional Brazilian-style açaí served in bowls with various toppings including granola, fresh fruits, and coconut flakes.

Health Food Competition Heats Up

Oakberry enters a competitive Waikiki market where health food options have multiplied in recent years. The beachfront area already hosts several açaí and smoothie establishments, including local favorites like Island Vintage Coffee and Lanikai Juice, both of which have built loyal followings among residents and visitors.

The timing of Oakberry’s arrival coincides with Hawaii’s post-pandemic tourism recovery, as visitor numbers have returned to near pre-2020 levels. International tourists, particularly from Asia and Brazil, represent a key demographic for the brand, which already has recognition in markets like Japan and South Korea.

Local food industry observers note that Waikiki’s dining scene has become increasingly health-conscious, with plant-based and superfood options gaining ground alongside traditional Hawaiian and international cuisines. The shift reflects both changing visitor preferences and the health-focused lifestyle many Hawaii residents embrace.

Brazilian Flair Meets Island Style

Oakberry’s Hawaiian menu will maintain the company’s Brazilian roots while incorporating local touches. The chain sources its açaí directly from Brazil and emphasizes organic, non-GMO ingredients across its offerings.

The company has partnered with local suppliers where possible, including sourcing some tropical fruits from Hawaii farms. Menu prices will range from $8-15 for bowls and $6-10 for smoothies, positioning it competitively within Waikiki’s dining landscape.

Store design follows Oakberry’s global aesthetic of clean lines and purple accents that reflect the açaí berry’s signature color. The Waikiki location will seat approximately 20 customers, with additional outdoor seating taking advantage of Hawaii’s year-round favorable weather.

The Park Shore opening marks the beginning of what Oakberry hopes will be a broader Hawaii expansion. Company representatives indicated they’re exploring locations on other islands and in different Oahu neighborhoods, particularly areas with high foot traffic and health-conscious demographics.

For Honolulu residents, Oakberry’s arrival represents another option in the city’s growing fast-casual health food sector. The brand’s emphasis on quick service and nutritious ingredients aligns with local preferences for grab-and-go meals that don’t sacrifice health benefits.

Saturday’s grand opening will feature promotional pricing and giveaways throughout the day. The location will operate daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., targeting both early-morning health enthusiasts and evening diners looking for lighter meal options after beach days.

As Waikiki continues to evolve its dining offerings beyond traditional tourist fare, Oakberry’s success will likely depend on its ability to serve both visiting açaí enthusiasts and local residents seeking convenient, healthy meal options in the heart of Hawaii’s most visited neighborhood.
